Anderson’s Chimney Partners with Sweep Away Cancer

Every year the chimney industry spends October doing a very important job that has…

nothing to do with business or income. It has nothing to do with chimney science or new technologies. Every October the chimney industry works together for breast cancer awareness.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and it’s also the busiest time for chimney professionals—so who better to share the message? Since 85 percent of the people who schedule chimney services with us are women, we as an industry, have decided to give back in this way.

  • We wear pink for breast cancer awareness. During the month of October, you will not see us in our regular uniforms or gear. We’ll don pink to raise awareness. If you like the look, you can order pink swag directly from Sweep Away Cancer.
  • We contribute to Sweep Away Cancer as a business and as individuals, promote merchandise sales to our customers, and purchase merch ourselves, helping to raise thousands every year for individuals affected by cancer.
  • We provide expert chimney services and products and reach the most homeowners and individuals as possible. If you need chimney services and you’re outside of our service area or our bookings are full, we will do our best to refer you to a company that is participating in Sweep Away Cancer. We’re competitors, but we work together every year for this cause that has affected so many.

Join the Movement

You too can join the movement. What was just a passing idea after a keynote address at the 2015 National Chimney Sweep Guild Convention in Lancaster, Pennsylvania has become a movement. After learning that 85 percent of chimney sweep customers are women, two local competitors partnered together and then with a small group of others to Sweep Away Cancer that first October, raising $15,000. The rest, they say, is history (but you can read it here ).

We provide chimney services to customers in and around South Central PA, keeping chimneys clean and fires safe. What are you doing for yourself? Women are more likely to have breast cancer, but men also get it. See your doctor for regular checkups. Women at average risk for breast cancer should have a routine screening at age 45 and repeat this screening every year. At age 55 these screenings can be scheduled every other year. See the American Cancer Society Recommendations for the Early Detection of Breast Cancer for more information. Tell your friends and spread the word. Contribute where you can. Refer your friends to a chimney sweep company helping to Sweep Away Cancer and take care of yourself.

Sweep Away Cancer with Anderson’s this fall. Schedule your chimney services with us, or if your fireplace is all set, call and ask how to donate or get involved. We’d love to hear from you!
